BACKWOODS BOUND NEWSLETTER #2
Kenny & Susie Settle and James & Maggie Burns would like to welcome you to the October issue of the Backwoods Bound Newsletter! Our goal at Backwoods Bound is to serve you! Although we're starting out with information and links to areas of our interest, we hope you'll become involved so we can expand our web site to satisfy the interests of all our visitors. Our site currently provides information on hunting and fishing tips, product reviews, wild game and other recipes, fun facts, links to game and learning sites for the kids, links to a variety of companies, and we hope a little something for the whole family! We plan to soon expand this to include lists of hunting guides, outdoor vacation spots, outdoor safety, gifts for the "hard-to-buy-for", and more. We want our site to earn first ranking in the sites you frequent, so your input is important. Do you have favorite web sites you'd like us to link with, tasty recipes you'd like to share, topics for our site, etc? E-mail us anytime at editor@backwoodsbound.com. We'll make sure we give you credit on the submission so the whole world can know you're a Backwoods Bound type of person!
Sporting Shoot Raises $ For Children
On Saturday, September 23, I attended a sporting clay event sponsored by Pro-Hunt to benefit seriously ill children. The event was held at Shooting Sports in Warrenton, Mo, a wonderful facility for skeet, trap and sporting clays. Attendance was huge and a lot of money was raised for children with cancer. This is yet another fine example of sportsmen rising to the occasion and helping others. Congratulations and thanks to all who attended! Kenny S.

Why Do I Deer Hunt?
I'm sure that many of you have asked yourself the same question. Is it because I enjoy sitting in a stand all day and not even see a deer? Is it because I like to be in sleet and freezing rain to the point that it is so miserable, thoughts of quitting start to creep in my head? Or maybe it is because of things like this. One year after taking a buck, I began to field dress it. While cutting off the tarsal glands I made a move with my knife that can only be described as stupid and stabbed myself in the hand about two inches deep. Pretty negative stuff, huh? Let's look at some other reasons why I deer hunt. Getting in your tree early morning when it is still dark and watching the sun come up as the woods around you become alive is a pretty good one. What about the adrenalin rush as a deer approaches and you ready yourself for the shot. Another one of my favorites is sitting on stand after a couple of days and thinking about how much I love and miss my wife and daughters, then smiling, because I know that when I get home whether I was successful or not hugs, kisses and open arms will greet me. I am willing to bet that every one of you have experienced at least one of the scenarios I mentioned above. I know this because if you are a deer hunter it just goes with the territory. I deer hunt for the memories and experiences that you cannot get unless you put yourself in a tree stand. Memories that can be shared with friends and family. Memories and experiences that burn into your very soul. What about you? Why do you deer hunt? I'm Kenny, and I hope I have all of you in my corner.
